5 Lighting Setups Every Video Creator Should Know in 2026
Three point, butterfly, Rembrandt, practical and RGB lighting, with the exact fixture list and day rate for each setup in Da Nang.
Five setups cover almost every video job: three point, butterfly, Rembrandt, practical and an RGB accent. Three point carries interviews, butterfly suits beauty and product, Rembrandt adds drama with a single fixture, practicals keep a room honest, and an RGB accent lifts the subject off the wall. Every fixture named here can be hired by the day in Da Nang.
CINEFY, 179B Nguyen Cong Tru, An Hai, Son Tra, Da Nang. Camera and lighting hire: +84 779 771 234. Studio and podcast: +84 965 408 519. Every rate below comes from the CINEFY rental list updated 24 August 2026 and excludes 8% VAT.

Which setup should you learn first?

Three point, because the other four are edits of it. A key light sits about 45 degrees off the lens axis and slightly above eye level, a fill light sits opposite at lower output to control how deep the shadow goes, and a back light behind the subject separates hair and shoulders from the background.
The part most tutorials skip is what the key travels through. On our sets it almost never fires bare at a face: it goes through a 3×3 frame with Lee diffuser about a metre from the subject, which turns a small hard source into a large soft one. A bare panel at 45 degrees renders every skin texture at 4K, and grading will not take that back out.
Use it for: interviews, talking head, corporate and recruitment video.
When does butterfly lighting beat three point?

When the face is the product. The key goes directly in front of the subject and high enough that the nose shadow falls straight down in a small butterfly shape, with a bounce or a white card below the chin to open it back up. It flatters cheekbones and hides most texture, which is why beauty and skincare brands ask for it.
It has one hard requirement: a big soft source. A 60cm panel high and centred gives a butterfly shadow and hard edges everywhere else, so we send an Aputure Nova P300C through a 4×4 frame for this look rather than a small fixture with an umbrella.
Use it for: beauty, skincare, jewellery, lookbook, product presenters.
How do you get the Rembrandt triangle with one light?

Put a single key at roughly 45 degrees horizontally and higher than eye level, then rotate the subject until a small triangle of light appears on the cheek on the shadow side. That is the whole technique. What decides whether it reads on camera is the second half nobody rents: negative fill.
A floppy black cutter placed just outside frame on the shadow side absorbs the bounce coming back off a white wall. In a rented apartment or a cafe in Da Nang, walls are usually pale and the room is small, so light returns from every direction and the triangle turns into a soft gradient. One flag costs less than a second fixture and does more for this look.
Use it for: documentary interviews, founder portraits, music video, anything that should feel less lit.

Can you light a scene with practicals alone?

Almost. Practical lighting means the lamps visible in frame do the work: a desk lamp, a neon sign, a window, the pendant over a cafe table. It reads honest because the viewer can see where the light comes from. The catch in Da Nang is colour. Most rented houses and cafes run warm domestic LEDs around 3000K, and if there is a window in the shot you are mixing that with daylight near 5600K on the same face.
The fix is to control the practicals instead of fighting them. RGB bulbs such as the Aputure B7C screw straight into the existing lamp sockets, so you keep the fixture that belongs in the room and choose its colour and output from a phone. A small tube just out of frame lifts the shadow side back to a level the sensor can hold.
Use it for: cafe and restaurant content, night interiors, vlog and social pieces that should not look staged.
What does an RGB accent actually add?

Separation, and a reason for the colour. One saturated source on the background pulls the subject forward without touching the exposure on their face. The mistake we see most often is colouring the key itself, which turns skin an odd shade that is hard to correct later.
Keep the key neutral, put the colour behind the subject and let it fall off. A Nanlite PavoTube 30C hides behind furniture, and a flexible mat like the amaran F22C tapes to a wall where no stand would fit.
Use it for: music video, gaming and tech content, product hero shots, podcast sets.
What do these five setups cost to hire in Da Nang?
These are complete fixture lists, not a single light. Stands and the standard modifier come with each fixture; frames, flags and bounces are separate line items on the same list.
| Setup | Fixtures from the CINEFY list | Per day, excluding 8% VAT |
|---|---|---|
| Three point interview | amaran 300C key, amaran 200X fill, Aputure MC Pro back, 3×3 frame with Lee diffuser | 800.000đ |
| Butterfly for beauty and product | Aputure Nova P300C, 4×4 frame with Lee diffuser | 950.000đ |
| Rembrandt with one key | Aputure 300D, floppy black cutter 4×4 | 300.000đ |
| Practical dressing | Aputure B7C set of 8, Nanlite PavoTube 15C kit of 2 | 1.300.000đ |
| RGB accent | Nanlite PavoTube 30C kit of 4, amaran F22C flexible mat | 1.100.000đ |
A half day is charged at 70% of the day rate, rounded to the nearest thousand. Multi day bookings are quoted by hand rather than by an automatic discount, so ask for the number before you plan the budget around it. Larger fixtures sit above this range: an Aputure 600D is 600.000đ a day and a 1200D is 1.200.000đ, both before VAT, on the same 24 August 2026 list.
Which of these setups do people in Da Nang actually book?
Our rental calendar logged ten orders between 15 August and 14 September 2026. Lighting was the most booked group with three of those ten, ahead of gimbals and wireless microphones at two each and a single camera body. So the answer is not the camera. It is the light.
One of those three orders is worth reading closely. A 600D went out overnight with a stand, a softbox and a portable power station on the same ticket. That pairing is physics, not upselling: a fixture of that size on the domestic supply of a rented house will sag the circuit, and a battery station lets you place it where there is no three phase feed at all. Our studio has three phase power, so this only becomes a problem on location, and location is where most of these five setups end up.
What gets forgotten when you hire lights?
- Negative fill. Flags and floppies cost a fraction of a fixture and are what make Rembrandt and butterfly read on camera. They are the first thing left off an order and the first thing we end up driving out to a set.
- Power maths. Add the draw of every fixture before you arrive, then compare it with what the location can give you. Two large heads on one household circuit is a tripped breaker in the middle of a take.
- Wind at exteriors. On the coast road and up Son Tra, a large frame behaves like a sail. Sandbags and a second pair of hands are not optional there, and a frame that goes over lands on the fixture.
- Mixed colour. Bi colour and full colour units set to the same number can still read differently on the same face. Match them on a monitor at pickup.
- The handover check. Run every fixture through its full dim range and check the mount before you sign. Our technician does this with you at pickup, and it takes about ten minutes for a five light order.
Collection is at 179B Nguyen Cong Tru, An Hai, Son Tra, open 8:00 to 22:00. There is no free delivery: you collect, or we ship to the location for a fee based on distance. Equipment bookings hold with 50% on the date and 50% on handover. If a fixture is not on the list, tell us a few days ahead and we source it per order, with the price confirmed after we have it.
Frequently asked questions
How many lights do I actually need for an interview?
Two will do the job and three make it easy. A key through diffusion plus a back light gives a usable image; the fill is what stops the shadow side going black on a dark background. If the budget only stretches to one fixture, hire the key and spend the difference on a frame and a bounce.
Can I hire a single light, or only a package?
Single items are fine. Every fixture on the list has its own day rate, which is why the setups above are priced as sums rather than as packages.
What does lighting hire cost per day in Da Nang?
Small units such as an Aputure MC Pro or a single B7C start at 150.000đ a day, mid sized heads sit between 200.000đ and 900.000đ, and large heads run from 1.000.000đ to 3.500.000đ. All figures are from the 24 August 2026 list and exclude 8% VAT.
Do I need my own power on location?
For one or two mid sized heads in a house or office, usually not. For a large head, or for anywhere without a reliable supply, add a portable power station. That is exactly how the September order above was built.
Can someone come and operate the lights?
Yes. A lighting technician is 100.000đ per person per hour on studio bookings, and crew for a shoot outside the studio is quoted with the job.
Where do I go if I want the rates for every fixture?
The full list, fixture by fixture, is on the lighting rental page, and the wider catalogue including grip is on the equipment rental page.
