Osmo Pocket 4 Pro vs Luna Ultra: Which to Rent

The DJI Osmo Pocket 4 Pro and the Insta360 Luna Ultra are two-lens pocket gimbal cameras, launched seven weeks apart in 2026, at similar prices and near identical at a glance. But they are built for two different kinds of shooter: one for people with a crew and a grading stage, the other for people who film alone. CINEFY rents both by the day.

This article does not rank one above the other. After years of renting equipment out, we find the right question is never which camera is better but what your shoot actually needs.

We price the two identically because if one were cheaper, clients would choose by budget instead of by job. Choosing the wrong camera ruins the shoot, and that is the expensive outcome.

Buying prices for the two cameras in Vietnam are close to each other, so the purchase gap is not the deciding factor.

Choose the Osmo Pocket 4 Pro when your shoot shows these three signs

One, you have an editor and a grading stage. The CineD lab measured 16 stops of dynamic range on the main lens, putting this camera at the top of their database (source: CineD Lab Test, 30/07/2026). Wide dynamic range only pays off when you record log and grade afterwards. If you publish straight after shooting, you are paying for something you never use.

Two, the footage has to cut with a bigger camera. The D-Log 2 profile lets material from this pocket body sit on the same timeline as cinema camera footage without standing out. This is why crews often carry a Pocket as a second unit.

Three, you need a lot of slow motion. 4K at 240 frames per second is a mode the Luna Ultra does not have. Waves, hair, flying sand: slowed down, these become material straight away.

Worth knowing before you choose: swapping between the wide and the telephoto while recording log is fiddly, because you have to change colour profile and then set exposure again. Shooting on a standard colour profile avoids the problem entirely.

Choose the Insta360 Luna Ultra when your shoot shows these three signs

One, you film alone. The screen detaches, travels in your hand, gives you live view and lets you trigger the camera from 20 metres away. Nothing else at this price does that. If you are in front of the lens and also framing the shot, this is your camera.

Two, you publish the same day. Leica colour comes out of the camera ready to use. With no grading stage that is a genuine advantage and saves you a whole session at the desk.

Three, you want 8K so you can crop later. Shoot wide once, then cut several frame sizes out of it in the edit, a familiar way of working for interview shooters and anyone delivering to several formats.

Worth knowing before you choose: continuous 8K overheats after roughly 49 minutes, and measured exposure latitude sits at 4 to 5 stops, so expose correctly in camera rather than planning to pull it back in post.

Four kinds of client, four specific answers

Visitors spending a few days in Da Nang. Luna Ultra. You travel alone or as a pair, nobody is there to operate the camera, and you want video that works the moment you get home rather than a grading session. It stays light through Hoi An, Ba Na and Son Tra.

Younger creators running a personal channel. Luna Ultra if you shoot solo most of the time. Pocket 4 Pro if you have a friend behind the camera and you like a lot of slow motion.

Creators taking brand work. Pocket 4 Pro. Clients usually ask for footage that grades well and cuts with other sources. Wide dynamic range is what saves you shooting into the light on the beach at midday.

Content and social teams shooting several days. Rent both. Pocket 4 Pro as the main camera for the shots that need quality, Luna Ultra for behind the scenes and quick interviews thanks to the detachable screen. Two cameras for a day still costs far less than hiring an extra operator.

Frequently asked questions

Which one produces better images?
There is no general answer. On a standard colour profile both look clearly better than a phone. The difference only appears when you record log and grade deeply, and there the Pocket 4 Pro has wider dynamic range. If you publish straight after shooting, you will struggle to see a gap.

Which should a beginner rent?
The Luna Ultra, because the detachable screen lets you frame yourself without experience, and the colour is usable as it comes.

Can I rent both on the same day?
Yes. Plenty of content teams take both, one as the main camera and one for behind the scenes.

Do I need extra accessories?
Add a wireless mic if you are filming outdoors, plus a spare battery and a memory card for a full day. We stock all three.

Can these replace a full size camera?
